Abstract
The purpose of this research is to try to lift the veil on the influence of the slaves from the African element in the history of Yemen in Islam, the Middle Ages, as this aspect of the history of Yemen has not yet received the studies it deserves despite the importance it acquires. The slave class in Yemeni society is very rare. Through this research, we try as much as possible to shed light on the slaves, their influence in the Ziyadi emirate, and how these slaves rose to the top of the hierarchy of power after the death of the Ziyadi prince Abi al-Jaish 371 AH / 981 CE. They became the mainstay of the state's army, and with the passage of time the actual rule passed from the princes of Bani Ziyad to their slaves and loyalists from the Abyssinians.
